What does it mean to be Whackjob in KSP now?

Whackjob

As far as planetary tours go, how about doing one with NO orbital rendezvous, ie it's direct ascent from body to body. You can stage, but it means everything you want for the future landings has to go down and come back up on every planet.

There is no reason not to use the new parts just like you used the old parts, except now you can build even larger things.

Someone mentioned Planet Factory. Whackjob, there is Ablate. It's a real effort to reach it with a tiny probe. Why not sending a large station there?

Honestly Whackjob, it was never really the size of your craft that I was impressed with. Many of us on here have built some massive structures-whether we bothered posting about them or not. It was your unique approach to design and your personality that actually brought the most contribution to the community. The new parts do nothing to diminish that.

I'd like to see you build some stuff with the procedural parts and IR mods-and I won't listen to the IR won't work for you excuse, just build redundancy into it!

Whack, just go to the VAB and put something together. If it doesn't blow up during flight, go add 100% more craziness and parts. Repeat process until hilarity ensues.

Or, grab an E-class for each planet and moon, then perform a Grand Tour. Drop off a rock at each stop. Then, launch another mission to collect all of them and drop them onto the launch pad. While hovering.

Come on, dude. Just get back on the booster and ask, "What would make even Jeb turn into a gibbering wreck?"

Whack, if I may interest you in a challenge, particularly something I think only you could do, as it's something where I've failed numerous times because I can't think big enough.

Build a spaceplane with the new 3.75m SLS parts.

Alternatively, use the new SLS parts to make a Grand Tour Kethane Miner and drain the planets dry. Or make an E-Class Rock Garden on Eve.

Maybe try getting to Orbit with nothing but decouplers?

Ah, I've got a way to get the part count up: Ant Engine mission to Eve and Back. No solids, no LV-N's, no Mainsails. Clusters of Ant engines. And to be fair, allowance of the "radial" variant of the Ant engines. For fuel efficiency (though with you running Kethane, fuel is undoubtedly not a problem), clusters of Ion engines for interplanetary drive.

My two cents.

What I like about your work is the scope and the scale of your models, not if they can fly with the new parts. Let me ellaborate:

I´m not really impressed by "usability" because you can always add moar boosters to any half-@ssed piece of junk and make it fly. I´ve done it, no biggie. What I can´t do is to "do a Whackjob": something so big, so complex, so out there that you can´t even comprehend where to start to build something like that. Your ships and structures have a "whackjobiness" that can´t be imitated, a style that bends conventions, a shape that looks like something from another dimension.

You don´t need to create "bigger ships that can fly", you need to be whackjob.

Scope. Scale. Complexity. Beauty.

BE.WHACKJOB.
