Firefly replica (WIP)

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! :)

I've been making a Firefly replica for a little while and recently got back to it. Even though it's not finished (needs small details all around the place) I'd like some input. Does it look the original? (ignoring the wheels and the VTOL thrusters I had to add)

I've made a video of it in motion:

I'm planning to overhaul a lot of it with parts from the last few updates (RAPIER engines, stuff like that).

As of now, it can't work without unlimited fuel and I'm trying to get around that. Is it possible to stack fuel tanks into each other with the parts clipping cheat and still having them distribute the fuel normally ? That way they wouldn't occupy much space and could be placed right at the center of mass. Or is there any other way to maintain the center of mass at the same place during the flight?

Also, do you have tips for VTOL? Do they work better if they are perfectly vertical or should they have some sort of angle? I find it quite hard to land in VTOL mode and I'm wondering if it can be improved.

The shape is pretty good, however the challenge you are going to face with any Serenity replica is the scale of the ship. The one you have built here is nowhere near large enough. I myself have started work on a scale size model, but it will be quite some time before it is ready. Keep at it though, this is a ship that deserves to be represented properly in KSP. :)

Looks great already! Just some cowls around the main engine and you're as good as done.

As sgalbincea mentioned, it is small, so it might be hard to get enough fuel in there legitimately

Thanks for all the nice feedback! :)

I didn't have much time to work on the next version but I managed to experiment a bit with fuel tanks placement and I've found a way to put more fuel in the ship without cheating much. So far, I have enough to put it in orbit legitimately (with a slightly lighter dummy version though) but it burns too fast and the ship needs to refuel before it can go anywhere.

I need to figure out the right quantity of fuel to put in there. Is there any easy way to know when there's too much weight for the engine to be efficient?
