Star Trek Continues is pretty great

Trek fans have strong opinions about which series were good or bad; I grew up watching the original 60s version so I have many fond memories there. Most of my younger friends prefer The Next Generation. In fact my favorite Trek episode of all time, "Darmok" comes from TNG. Deep Space Nine aimed for stories with a bit more grit. I say: there's plenty to like about each distinct blend of Trek.

But if you like the original series, you should check out the fan-made project called Star Trek Continues. I've seen many such attempts, but this one really captures the look and feel of the original series.

The first episode is a bit rocky in places and stumbles a bit, but it's still good. However, I just watched episode 2 ("Lolani") last night and found it extremely satisfying.

There's another fan made Star Trek series worth looking at. Star Trek New Voyages. They've done 8 episodes and a few vignettes. The series picks up where the original left off with the beginning of the fourth year of the original five year mission. Not bad for a fan made production on a micro budget
