Reopen R/D?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys and fellow rocketeers :)

I've been playing my career since the update came out, a lot! (300 hours :P )

But recently I've been travelling to planets and moons I haven't been to before.

The thing is that I actually really enjoy the small science reports, but I've researched everything in the R/D...

So when I travelled to Moho for the first time and took a surface report, it told me that "... This doesn't seem to have any scientific value" (How could surface samples from alien planets NOT BE!!!?! :D ).

So I guess I just wanted to hear if the reports is on some homepage, or if I can somehow reopen the R/D facility? :)

Thanks :)

Are you SURE you are in career mode, and didn't accidentally open a sandbox mode game? I ask, because I[ve done that before. I have a sandbox mode where I test, and on occasion forget to switch back to career, and only after getting that same notice you did, do I realize I'm in sandbox.

Not quite the same thing, but possibly this is related to the career saves getting locked out when v0.23.5.459 came out. If you had already completed the tech tree and loaded your save into 459, it might have been converted to a sandbox game. In that case, you wouldn't have noticed if you never went back into the R&D facility or did any science till now. Try the fix below in the link to edit your save. (Keep a copy, of course. In case that's not clear in my instructions below. :P)

EDIT: I guess I should have also said that a way to confirm your save has been converted is by trying to open the R&D facility.

Old career mode save file locks out R&D science facility – [FIX]

There was a bug with the first release of v0.23.5 that caused the R&D facility to be locked with old save games.

1) Make a copy of your save games and keep them somewhere safe

2) Update your KSP to v0.23.5.464

3) Go to the link below and follow the steps on how to fix your save file. Like I said, make sure you keep another copy somewhere safe.

Wait... does this mean that you could actually enable real science reports in Sandbox mode?

Yes, that's exactly what I do, since science reports are the only useful thing about career mode.

Start a career-mode save, edit the persistence file to give yourself 99999 science points (science = 99999), go to the R&D facility and 'research' all the tech, carry on as if it's sandbox with working science reports.

Aww. This is disappointing. I already knew of this method, what I meant was enabling science reports in a Sandbox game, also via the persistence file. Dangnabbit. I suppose it doesn't matter much anyway, but still.

should be able to open up R&D in sandbox, just copy the R&D Scenario block from career persistence save to your sandbox save. or copy the career save to sandbox and edit the mode to 0 instead of 1. be sure to back up the sandbox save first if you already have flights in progress.
