VAB Part Order

I'm curious as to how the parts lists in the VAB/SPH are ordered. Parts from the same mod are listed together, but why are they put into the order they are? And some mod parts end up between groups of stock parts, so for example, you have stock structural parts, mod structural parts, more stock, etc.

I ask because I'd like to group everything nicely together by default, ex: having my mod RTGs next to the stock one. I know there's a mod that allows you to sort parts and I've used it, but if there's something that can be edited in the part files to affect their default order, that would be great.

As far as I can tell they are added in alphabetical-order of the folders within KSP\Gamedata; presumably with 'Squad' being given preference. Why stock doesn't all appear together I don't know, but you might like to check how they are bundled within folders under Squad\Parts.

Pure alphabetical. So stock parts that are in NASAmission/ will appear in a separate group from parts that are in Squad/.

Mods between N and S (e.g. RealChute, SDHI) will appear between the two groups of stock parts.

Well, that's a bit disappointing, though I suppose I can see about renaming mod parent folders. Thanks for the responses.
