Mod Suggestions

Hey guys, brand new here. i've have KSP for about a month and loving every bit so far! No mods yet, im working on mastering the original before i change it, but i think the time has come.

So what are the best mods to start out with?

I'm in the middle of building a mun base so im thinking of getting the kethane mod, but i don't really know what it includes other than the drilling for kethane (if it even does that... thats all a friend told me)

So any suggestions?

Thanks

B9 is my personal favorite, although while we're waiting for the author to update it we're having to use a patch in order to make it work with the current version of KSP. KW Rocketry is another personal favorite of mine.

Environmental Visual Enhancements (EVE) is another must have.

Kerbal Alarm Clock: helps out a lot when managing multiple flights at once. You can set alarms so you don't forget important maneuvers

Mechjeb: provides tons of useful information in flight and autopilot functions. It's like having a competent copilot. You can tell it to do as little or as much as you want.

Kerbal Engineer: if you want access to the flight information but don't want an autopilot.

Lazor Docking Cam or Docking Port Alignment Indicator: both make docking much easier

Active Texture Management: compresses your textures so you can have more mods.

B9 Aerospace: sweet looking spaceplane parts

KW Rocketry: clean looking rocket parts

Kethane: find kethane deposits, drill them for raw kethane, then convert into fuel/oxidizer/monopropellant/xenon.

Its nice to see new players think its better to play by themselves, other than pressing buttons and letting MechJeb do all the work :)

I suggest TextureReplacer, its nice to have, you can change textures to Kerbals, planets, and pretty much everything, you can make Kerbals have custom or random faces, and in (breathable) atmospheres they have no helmet. The only problem, its not very easy to customize everything, but when you finish customizating, you can enjoy your custom Kerbals without helmet :D

Also, don't worry about adding mods, all it takes is RAM, not CPU, so no lag, but if you install too many mods you end up running out of RAM, thus crashing the game, if that happens i suggest installing Active Texture Management (ATM), it reduces RAM consumption so you can install more mods!

I downloaded KW rocketry but the game started running real slow, like it took a few minutes to get 1 minute on the in-game timer, so i deleted the mod. I still have the folder though, so any suggestions on how to get it to run smoothly?

And i also downloaded Kethane but i can't figure out how to install it? the readme file wont load for some reason.

Usually lag like that isn't caused by mods directly, but rather by part count.

How big are your ships? Several minutes per minutes is usually only a problem with huge ships (1000+ part count)

All mods are installed by simply pasting the folder in the gamedata folder. Kethane should be the same

Welcome Dulaman,

hazardous guess:

you can check your computer fans and radiators for dust (especially if old system and/or component with inner fan and radiator not directly accessible) could be related and solve matters with KW as this shouldn't happen with KW only.

EDIT: If your not at ease with that ask a friend that is.

I started having issues with crashing when I installed a few mods. That would explain it.:(
