Interplanetary Explorer Probes!

Recommended Posts

Lately I've been working with probed exploration, and the following rockets are what resulted of that. There's a total of four rockets, all for different objectives, but some overlap each others objective because they have more of this or of that, but the key difference between similar models is the Dv.

Explorator-I:

- Target locations: Kerbin, Eve and Duna

- Parachuted descent

- Probe

Explorator-II

- Target locations: Kerbin, Eve, Duna, Laythe

- Parachuted descent

- Probe

- Slower than Explorator-I, but more dv

New-Odyssey VAC

-Target locations: Kerbin, Mun, Minmus, Eve, (Gilly is possible but not really rover suitable), Duna, Ike, Dres, Vall, Moho ( I managed to land here with a 5000M/s circularisation burn, so if you manage to get a better window, it's certainly possible), Vall, ...

- Powered descent

How forgiving are these probes fuel budgets? I admit to being a bit lazy and impatient with my launch windows and rendezvous.

Usually very forgiving, I never bothered to launch at windows either, but if you take the right rocket for the job, you should have plenty left. For example the explorator-II got to jool with about 2500m/s of Dv still in the tank.

And thank you for the good comments!!

i will give them a try. its all stock with no mods correct? problem is that not returning probes have a penalty for sending the science. hoping that will be removed for probes (not for manned vessels)

Yup, stock stock all stock! And indeed, that probe penalty sucks...
