Distance Measurements!

Recommended Posts

Hey I play KSP alot but I've found that I don't know what a few units are, I also Play with mods... E.G 540AU... what is that in meters? I've also seen some like 'Gm' and 'Mn' if someone could inform me as to what these are in meters/how to convert it it would be great!

AU = Astronomical unit, which in real life is the distance from the Earth to the Sun. Haven't seen it used in KSP, not sure if it would refer to that or the Kerbin-Sun distance.

Gm = gigameter = 1,000,000,000 meters or a million kilometers.

MN = Meganewton = 1,000 kilonewtons (the thrust unit in KSP)

or, if that was a typo:

Mm = Megameter = 1,000,000 meters or a thousand kilometers.

SNIP

IF you are using the KSP Interstellar Mod, then 1AU is the distance from Kerbin to the Sun. so if you are using the Telescope that comes with that mod you would need to be 7,343,913,700,000m away from Kerbin. or to put it more simply 7.3439137 Tm (Terameters) and yes the Altimeter does go up that high.
