Something's wrong with my quicksave.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I've been playing KSP for a while now and have never gone through this problem. Out of no where my quicksave doesn't work. And when I try to quicksave, I try to go back to space center and it won't work either. This forced me to close my window. I tried a few times and the same thing happened over and over. It's wierd cause yesterday it was working perfectly and I haven't installed any mods. I also shutdown my computer to see if it was that but same thing kept happening.

Has anyone had this problem? How did you solve it?

Thanks

I'm not 100% clear on the specific problem, more info please. Are you saying that when you push F5, nothing happens, no "quicksaving" in the top right, and F9 loads a previous, undesired quicksave as if you never pushed F5? Or are you saying that you push F5, it quicksaves, and then you can't load your quicksave with F9? If the latter is true, what exactly happens when you hold F9? Also, are you saying that your persistent save file works, when you load up your game? Before you do anything at all to try to fix it, backup both your saves to a separate folder so you have a copy at it's least messed up state.

If you are having issues with quicksaves not loading it is possible the save is corrupted, you can also use ALT+F9 to oad any save in your saves folder. (ALT+F5 allows you to make multiple quick saves)

Can you show me the mods you have installed? I used to have this problem.

I have mechjeb 2 and the engineer redux and fuel balancer. Don't think I have anything except one part from kW rocketry.

Really, I didn't you could do multiple quick saves. I'll check out if it works tonight.

Yep, it's a new thing they added in .23.5, along with Quicksaving anywhere (Use caution when chutes are deployed)

Ok just tried alt f5 and that didn't work either I also noticed that the space center doesn't work neither no matter what. Another thing I noticed is that my other save works so that means that it's nothing to do with my laptop but the save itself.

EDIT: I just noticed the quicksave doesnt work only with a specific craft and probes it ejected.

Oh, then that's probably your problem. I had been reading this thread assuming something was wrong with your laptop's function key, or the F5 key itself. (I thought you were having this problem everywhere.)

The way you can confirm it is a specific probe (or craft) is to open the debug log and watch for red error messages. To open the debug log, press ALT+F12 and click on the "Debug" tab. Scroll to the bottom.

If you are getting NullReferenceExceptions or other red errors then it is something with that craft.

Some common things that cause this problem:

- The Claw

- Detatching multiple child craft at the same time (especially if they are manned capsules)

- Some docking configurations

If you are detaching multiple probes, try separating them one at a time.

thats it. The red things that say NullReferenceExceptions are showing in the debug. I had seperated two probes and they were like 2 seconds apart.

Can you provide a picture of your ship in question?

You could also try to separate the first one, then quicksave. If that works, exit back to the space center then go back to the ship. Try separating the second probe and quicksave again. But if you are separating them one a time and the error is showing up on the first one, then it might be hard to fix.

If is it all stock and if you can provide a save file then that would help me duplicate and see if I can figure out a specific fix. (I also have MechJeb installed.) I might be able to provide you with some trickery to edit the save file and get the probes off. It would also be nice to see what's happening so we can help the developers nail down the bug. :)

Ok. The weird thing is that right after I separated the two probes, I was able to quicksave but the moment i did that is when it broke and i got these problems. So the save files is from right after a planned the trajectory of each probe.

Well anyway, here is a pic of the craft with 4 landing probes attached to it while in a flyby near one of Jools moons. iHajVJz.png

Here is one of the probes that I separated causing the bug. fmynNsk.png

The Craft has to be that big cause it no only gathers science by jool but it also returns it all to kerbin for bonus data and it works as a return craft to a manned lander on Laythe.

My save folder is in this link. Thanks for the help.

Its definently not KER.

Idk, my problem went away when I uninstalled lazor systems.

Try uninstalling one mod at a time until it stops.

And also be aware that problems can occur even if you arent using the mod.

I think I might have just figured it out. I just noticed that there is a thurd probe, but i had only launched two. When i clicked on it in the tracking station, it had 0 part count and weighed 0 t. I just deleted it. Lets if it works.

EDIT: yes it works. Wohoo.
