Screamjet: a new hybrid engine SSTO capable

Recommended Posts

Hi! I was tired of change the aesthetics of my airplanes to convert them into SSTO, due the need of one or more rocket engine; So i have create a new hybrid jet (rapier alike): the Screamjet, capable of a good weight/thrust ratio and a good fuel consuption.

This new engine is good for reach hypersonic speeds with your airplanes (a plane capable of 1700 m/s with normal jets can reach more than 2000m/s with my new engine) at the cost of add a bit of oxygen. It's also very good for build SSTOs.

INFORMATIONS:

-parts count: about 20 depends on version

-MAX Thrust: 303

-Max rocket thrust: 78

-toal combined mass: 1.66

The Screamjet comes in a 3 versions pack.

INSTALLATION:

copy the 3 craft files into your subassemblies folder.

for the Screamjet V3 just place it in your craft and add a turbojet engine and a fuel duct (without fuel duct can't work).

Here is another type of hybrid jet from 9t3ndo http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/43086-Open-Source-Construction-Techniques-for-Craft-Aesthetics?p=1009098&viewfull=1#post1009098

This is great. I really like to see more of combining different engine types. Maybe it is time for a sub-thread to the open source construction, the "engine-cluster edition". Again, awesome work.

great engine 9t3ndo, glad we can use it, open source is nice, I did mod for a long time and made it open source all the time, modders can play around with it, but credit is always nice,

glad to see these eorin, more stuff to test out, morrrreee power :), I`m sure u knew it was open source !! most modders won`t accept credit, but its the polite way.

To be honest I inveted it by myself too. Then I heard that someone build it before me (in Zokeasia Skunkworks!). I have no idea who build it first, but I got it in my Su-35 for long time :D

Honestly you can't compare my engine to yours because they are totally different: mine is a jet+rockets engine capable to SSTO, yours is a jet+jet atmospheric engine.

I use this type of engine since long long time but i have never seen someone open a similar thread (maybe im wrong) so i have open one on my own :)

Considering people have been tricking themselves to orbit with the help (or hindrance) of taking off from the runway and not dropping pieces on the way since before there were airbreather engines in the game, I'd say there is little to invent that doesn't involve new parts. And even then, this community is so active that anything new will probably get found and exploited within weeks. That's why I am very, very slow to take credit for any "first" in KSP.

But that SU-35 is damn sexy, Mareczex333 :D

Rune. There's always some bigger fish somewhere else.

The afterburner model is nothing new. Check the old zokesia thread.

i dont see the engine u are sayng in the op of old zokesia thread, and honestly i dont want to search in a 260 page thread.

And still i dont understand why people are complaining about who first discovered a thing... who cares honestly? i am using this type of engine since long time ago, but i don't have seen it in any post, so i've open this thread because this could be usefull for someone, so stop be childish.

Sorry if this could seems rude, but i can't speach english very well so forgive me :) hope you understood what i wanted to say

I was just giving you a heads up on how this forum works. When you claim something is, say, biggest, you have about five minutes before your thread gets flodded with pictures of bigger stuff. Ditto with firsts. But hey, it's all in good fun :)

Rune. Beware of superlatives in KSP!

This is awesome and is the first time I've seen it done in this specific way, with the LV-1R engines. One suggestions I have would be to angle the LV-1R engines inward so their exhaust converges to form a "point." I think that would enhance the effect.

Thanks! I had trouble with the simmetry of the LV-1R engines, i think make them with a different inclination it's bad for simmetry.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
