Controlling engines from Orbital map mode?

Recommended Posts

I'm following Scott Manley's great tutorial series for KSP beginners (that would be me) and I think he is able to control his engine thrust (shift and control keys) from the orbital map screen, but when I play my own game, I can't control the engines from there, so I constantly have to hit the M key to adjust engines and then hit M key to see the map and see if I've under- or over-shot my target. It's frustrating to switch screens and pray I get the timing right.

How do I control my engines with shift/control while looking at the map screen showing the apoapsis amd periapsis?

The "X" key does work when I'm in the orbital map, so normally I just hit "X" like Scott said when my orbit looks good, however sometimes its moving too fast and I want to cut my thrust and slow how fast the orbit is changing, but this is where I can't adjust anything and have to switch screens.

You will have to bring up your navball at the bottom to be able to use your throttle, sas, and rcs. Note, this does not work in the tracking station

Edit: see above post

I do believe my navball is displayed, but perhaps I'm not understanding. Let me fire up my game so I'm not struggling to describe things.

Edit: I see the little arrow in the middle of the screen... and I was wrong, my navball was not displayed in the orbital screen.

Solved! Thank you for help, I have a million more questions coming. :)
