NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory is collaborating with 3D printer manufacturer MakerBot to judge designs for a Martian base. I don't think you actually need a 3D printer to enter, and in fact the prize for the winning entry is a 3D printer set up. Some interesting designs have already been posted, it's worth having a look through the entries.

I figure that the KSP community has many 3D modelers who know a bit about space, maybe someone here could win!
