When having a discussion it might be interesting to see peoples opinions, perhaps represented visually using bars of various length and color.

polls of course are informal and unscientific (inaccurate even) in our forum as all players may not browse here, but the option would be nice.

please allow polls in discussion threads.

Don't know what your meaning is... do you want polls on every​ post, not just the thread as a whole, or...?

polls arent allowed in the suggestions and development board. and it would be nice to gather opinions, particulary in discussion threads.

Allow me to shamelessly quote myself, from a PM I wrote a while back to someone who had the same question:

Yes, there's a reason people can't post polls in Suggestions & Development Discussion and that is that people tend to attach a poll with their suggestions, and use the results (which are by definition very skewed) as a reason Squad should implement a certain suggestion. For example, if I were to post a thread called 'Resource mining' and attach a poll to that asking people if they think Squad should add it, I can predict that 90% of people would probably agree with this, and this goes for any topic. The reason here is that people who aren't interested in the topic of resource mining will probably not open the thread, much less vote on the poll, which means you'll end up with the aforementioned skewed results. Because at some point last year this thing was happening a lot, together with all sorts of comments such as: "Squad, look at the poll, 85% of the people want this feature! You need to implement it!" it was decided to disable polls for this forum.

Long story short: the polls really don't represent the general interest fairly, and a good discussion gives a lot more insight into what people want than a quick poll. The thread you linked is of limited use in any case, since Squad plans the updates a long time in advance. In fact, I think most things up until 0.25 at least were planned last year during Kerbalkon.
