Since the

original thread is over a month old by now and the user who started it is evidently long gone, I'm opening this new thread to give us a bit of a fresh start.

Politics and War is a game in which you play as a tiny micronation of 1,000 people, and grow your country bigger and bigger until you're collecting enough tax revenues to build up a giant military, and slug it out with the big girls and boys.

You start out with a single city, a small plot of land, some resources, and a pile of dosh. The way the game works is that your population increases as long as your citizens have room to expand and they're healthy: when you buy Infrastructure, your maximum population limit increases, but you also have to buy Land to keep your people from getting too crowded and making each other sick.

The more people you have, the more tax money you collect. Money lets you buy Improvements, which give you resources, help your citizens, or provide beds for your soldiers and parking lots for your tank brigades.

Speaking of soldiers and tanks, your military is nearly the biggest priority in this game. In the beginning you can get by without a defense force, but once you've risen above 10 points, expect to need at least one barracks to protect your hapless citizens from raiders. Although historically, the planet Orbis - the alternate Earth wherein Politics and War takes place - has been relatively peaceful, one attack from a superior nation can easily send you reeling, and rob you of precious money and resources.

Civilian action in the game is a mild mixture of turn-based and real-time play: Tax revenues and resource accumulation/consumption are determined every two hours, while all other actions can be performed at any time, as long as you have the stuff for it.

When you first join the game, you'll be asked to choose a home Continent by placing your nation on the world map, which will determine what 3 natural resources your nation can natively produce. All nations can make food, though. My nation is in Asia, which means I have Iron, Oil, and Uranium. This means I can make Gasoline and fuel my nuclear power plants without anyone's help; I can also make Steel, but I need to buy Coal from other countries. Keep this in mind when choosing your location; the wiki has a list of continents and their resources to help you. There are 10 types of resources in total, excluding Food.

Resources can be divided into two classes, Raw and Manufactured.

Raw resources include:

• Iron

•*Bauxite

• Lead

• Oil

• Coal

• Uranium

Manufactured resources are:

• Steel - from iron and coal

• Aluminum - from bauxite

•*Munitions - from lead

•*Gasoline - from oil

Manufacturing can be done at certain Improvements. Be careful, they're costly and incur high maintenance fees - but the resources you make can sell for big bucks.

War is similar to civilian actions, because you have to accumulate Military Action Points in order to launch an attack, but you can launch attacks any time as long as you have them. When war is declared, both sides start with 6 Points; it takes 3 to launch a ground attack. You can accumulate a maximum of 12 points. Defensive combat is automated, and uses your full military power at all times.

There are three kinds of attack in the game right now, corresponding to the four types of military unit you can create. Ground attacks use Soldiers and Tanks; Airstrikes use Aircraft, and Naval Battles use Ships. Ground Attacks can only destroy other ground units and your enemy's Infrastructure, but Airstrikes can target any units, and highly successful Naval Battles will prevent your enemy from performing trades of any kind.

The game is still in beta for the next couple of weeks, so feel free to join and

play with us - the United Kerbals - for a while to get the feel of the game! Once beta ends on July 1st, our alliances should stay the same, but all nations will be reset. Thus, everyone in the game world will start from a clean, equal slate, and we Kerbals might rise from the ashes triumphant.

Happy exploding!

If you want to join our alliance: You'll start out as an Applicant, and you'll need to get approval from the Crew Officers to be inducted. Just post here with your nation name, so we can verify who you are.

To alliance nations: Feel free to use this thread for general discussion. Our forum is, as always, at this link.
