Steam Free Play Week?

Recommended Posts

Heya guys!!! You see where am I? I use non-Steam KSP. I want it to be Steam-linked. So I wanna suggest a Free to Play Week so that people can download KSP w/o paying money like people who have low salary to buy KSP even if they want. Please correct me if this is in the wrong place. Happy discussion!!!

so give the game for free? a a demo is the best option thus far, though it stands that it could use an update i think.

also, the steam summer sale is rumored to start in a few hours, so KSP and hundreds of other games will be available for 50% off or more. crazy deals coming.

squad is a business and in it to make money. they sell a product, to earn a profit. they also offer a free "lite" version of their product, i.e. the demo, to garner intrest from potential buyers.

things are not free man.

edit: though perhaps once the sale is on, a "ksp gifting thread" could start and people could gift it to other forum users? is that kind of thing ok mods?

So that's your problem, sorry but that's reality, you can still get a PayPal account correct? Besides KSP is completly DRM free, there would be no way to stop people from playing the game after the week was over. That's why there is a demo.

So go to one of the stores that sells Steam gift cards and buy it with cash. Why would they ever want to give out the actual game for free? I'm not sure KSP would even work right with free-to-play weekends; it currently has no DRM, and I don't know how much trouble it is to add the necessary DRM (if they didn't, then it'd be possible to keep playing the actual game after that weekend).

Then request a Steam code to activate and download KSP on Steam.

You can only do that if you bought KSP before the Steam version was released. If you had the option of buying the Steam version and didn't take it, you can't switch without buying the game again.

On the other hand, allowing a certain type of access to the game can allow for more people to get into it. Plenty of other games have run a "free weekend" for either the full game or a certain part of the game (usually multiplayer) with good result. However, KSP's demo, while somewhat outdated right now, is still robust enough to give you a solid sense of what the full game has in store. With that, I don't see KSP doing anything akin to a "free weekend."

As for a gifting thread, that'd be up to you. I wouldn't want to see steam IDs thrown about the thread though. The handling of code exchanges should be handled through PMs, while requests be made in the thread.

Completely outdated.

Plus, free weekends are only given to complete games. Ever saw an early access title on free weekend?

The reason KSP shouldn't give free weekends, is because it has no DRM.

If you have the folder, you can play the game. So after the free weekend ends, you can still play the game. Forever. For free.

So it wouldn't be a free weekend, it'd be a game giveaway

There can never be a free play week on steam because unlike other games, this game does not use Steam's DRM. Once purchased you can copy the game and Steam doesn't even have to be running. So, if you were to offer a Free Play Weekend like other steam games do, you would actually be giving it away for free permanently.

Beat me to it

They should at least discount it more than 30% or whatever it is. I've talked to people about KSP and how it's quite cool, but most of them don't want to have to pay £20 to buy it.

In it's current unfinished form it's worth 4 times that.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
