NASA launched a test vehicle to the edge os space, using a balloon. With the pressure change, it would pop up, letting the "saucer" crash. But they installed the largest parachute they ever built, and the SIAD, a kind of donut shaped balloon that slows down the spacecraft, by expanding its braking surfac

Watching it right now, doesnt seem like it went well. Looked like the parachute didnt deploy correctly.

Partial success. Inflatable heat-shield worked, supersonic parachute didn't. Should still be able to recover the box containing the telemetry data.
