Fix for the serious flaws in the VAB?

Recommended Posts

Are there any mods out there that stop the VAB from being so badly designed? It has several severe flaws but the two that have cost me an awful lot of needless work are:

Transparent controls that will remove parts of your rocket if they're underneath it when you click on it, or make you exit the VAB.

Adding a subassembly mixes its staging in with whatever's there already leading to a lot of reworking your staging, possibly leading to you losing a lot of work due to the above problem.

Are there any fixes for these?

EDIT: It'd also be nice if changes I made to the default crew didn't revert back the moment I did any other thing to the rocket whatsoever.

Better to put such thread in bug/support/suggestion sub-forum.

For the "transparent controls", it's mostly a lack of layers in buildings facilities that's create this issue. Too bad for us, people want more new features (with new issues as 0.23.5 shown) than less existing issues. We have to make more noise maybe, don't know.

For the stagging issue, look at smart stagging plug-in in release addon forum, it may helps.

So for now, no fixes avail, both official or third-party, except maybe for the 2nd.

The crew thing is also an annoying issue, you fill your vessel, add a part or two, do something, then you have to do it again ! Stupid kerbals, they run away stealthy when you're looking elsewhere !

The staging issue can be solved by adding empty stages 1,2,3,4,... to the saved subassembly.

If your new craft uses stages 1 to 5 and your subassembly uses stages 10 to 15, the resulting empty stages 6 to 9 get deleted automatically after attaching the subassembly and the staging of new rocket and subassembly do not mix.

Ah, thank you, that solves an awful lot of problems!

As a side note, Squad plans to get the skeletons of all of the features into the game first, then go back and adjust all of the content. Plus they have already acknowledged that the VAB/SPH is due for an overhaul, and that it might happen soon. :D

Just realize that they are indeed focusing on new features first, then fixing bugs and content.

As for the OP, they have also acknowledged the click through popups are a problem. Apparently it's a thing with how Unity does some of the windows, so I don't know when that will get fixed. I don't know of any mods that fix this. :(
