Attempting to edit a custom space suit, need some advice

(I may not be able to edit the post due to a bug, if I need to. Just FYI.)

I've been messing around with TextureReplacer and have come across a lot of very good texture packs and suits. I'm trying to take a suit and customize it to fit what I want to do in the game, but I'm having a bit of trouble with editing images. I have always used Paint.net (for years) and haven't tried much else, but I'm willing to learn if need be.

I'm trying to remove this pouch from the arm of a suit, I cropped out the colored part so I am able to recolor it without affecting the rest of the suit, but I do not want this little part here, because I want to place a flag or mission flag there.

What would be the best way of doing this and make it seamless?

You might be able to use the Clone tool (or whatever its equivalent is in Paint.net, I'm not super familiar with that program) to copy the surrounding texture so that the removed patch blends nicely into the background. Fortunately, kerbals are small, and so any minor mistakes/inaccuracies made by the Clone tool aren't as noticeable as they would be on a larger image.

Sadly I have tried this, and it looks very nasty. I may forget it and just work around it.
