Would you all comment on the reasons for building your bases - if there is any apart from being super-cool :-)

I left them out of my tutorial because the only practical purpose I could think of was Kethane mining and for simplicity I didn't want to include the mod. Give me some ideas and I'll add chapter 9!

Mine was originally going to be a Laythe colony, but after my designs proved to be unable to reach Layhte orbit, I decided to go to the Mun first. I didn't have any proper reasons besides that using Extraplanetary Launchpads, I could launch rockets from the low gravity environment of the Mun. This would allow me to get rockets to other planets without having to deal with an atmosphere.

Ah yes, EPL is a good reason. I hadn't even thought of that one.

I made it my mission to plant a full base on each and every rock in KSP ( before 0.23.5 ) Now I do it just to be "badass"

oh and by "full" I mean each has to have;

Lab, hab, EP, 2 rovers and a station to supply them

Took some screenshots of my colony. Bob is at the top of the tower. Didn't feel like getting all the other colonists out of their habitats given the reduced framerate when this base is running.
