To suggest or to request

Recommended Posts

There are no official guidelines, no. It's just a matter of whether you want it in the stock game, or you want to have to wait a few days (or weeks) every update to get the mod working again.

Also, it would be good to consider whether the feature you want is a suitable fit for the stock game. If it's something only a select group of people will want to use, it's probably better suited to a mod. If it is unbalanced by design and intended to make the game laughably easy (or on the flipside, impossibly hard), then it's probably better off as a mod.

If it's something you think a lot of players will make use of and/or enjoy or appreciate, and you think it is a worthy addition to the game itself, go ahead and suggest it. :)

In terms of the suggesting/requesting on the forums alone, take note of the What not to Suggest thread here:

http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/36863-What-not-to-suggest

Which basically kills 99% of all the threads proposed anyways.

Beyond that you can ask for what ever you really want, in any way you want. Just don't be surprised if your thread ends up closed because it follows something on the What-not-to-Suggest-list.

So...it's the end user that has to determine wether or not his suggestion is a suitable fit or not? Don't tell me you seriously think half of the userbase of these forums has a sliver of knowledge of game development. Not very confident on how you pull that statement back on your last paragraph as well...

They don't *have* to determine it - if they think something would be a good stock feature, and the devs disagree, it wouldn't be implemented. If they think it's good for stock and the people on the forum disagree, they'll say so. It's just general guidance, for someone who's already wondering whether to suggest for stock or not - since suggestions that aren't suitable for stock are unlikely to be added, they make more sense to request as an addon. Short of producing an exhaustive list of what is suitable and what isn't, the best you can do is say "here are some tips for what might be suitable, decide yourself, it's not the end of the world if you're wrong".

They don't have to know the ins and outs of everything to make a suggestion. If after some thought they still think it's a good idea, they can suggest it. Others may think it's not the best idea, but some might agree with the original idea.

In the end, it's entirely up to Squad what features they choose to implement.
