Lining up rockets

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know how to go about lining rockets up next to each other, for display purposes? I'm pretty sure I've seen pictures like that, with launchers lined up clamps and all on the runway - but I can't actually find any now I come to look... I'm just trying to do a bit of a visual size comparison of my launcher family.

I don't think this functionality exists in stock. You can't launch a vessel to either the runway or launchpad if there's already a vessel in the respective biome (the launchpad and runway are their own biomes, separate from KSC).

It's something I've been wanting to do with mine as well, but it's a real pain. Apart from anything you have to consider the lag from the total of all those ships' part-counts.

The way it's usually done, if small enough, is just to mount several ships on some 'plinth' - like I-beams/girders with separators or without.

For bigger craft you need to 'launch' one at a time and move them off the launch-pad with a rover of some sort. Either build the rover per vehicle or have a general-purpose one already launched itself.

Make each rocket a subassembly, then build a framework from girders or beams in the SPH with all those subassemblies hanging off it via decouplers. Launch, decouple the framework and fly it away on some little rockets of its own, and you have your launcher family lined up for the photoshoot.

This. Build the rockets next to each other, attached with small girders/beams situated near the top (not for support, just so they stay as a single unit and you can build them off each other), then launch and decouple the attachments between them.

Landing gear on the base of the rockets, multiple rovers with clamp o trons. launch the rocket, extend the gear, clamp the rovers on with the o-trons, then raise the landing gear. This is a POSSIBLE way to move the rockets in vanilla. Think there's a mod that someone used to build a giant rover capable of actually picking up rockets and positioning them on it's own without assistance, but can't recall the details about it.
