Lowest orbit for planets etc. in kerbals solar system

Recommended Posts

I heard that ther is lowest orbit limit, if you will orbiting below it, your spacecraft will probably disappear (cause of the likely hitting the ground)

for planets with atmosphere is obviously that the atmosphere is the limit, but for others?

I'm curious cause i lost some spacecrafts that way

On the Wiki's I think you can get the highest elevation of land for each body....... so for the non-atmospheric bodies I would imagine any orbit over that is safe unless there is a special game mechanic that deletes non-viewed craft below certain altitudes.

Look at Kerbal maps and find low areas to orbit. That might help a bit. The highest altitudes for each body are given on the wiki as stated above.

I'm pretty sure someone made graphs of the lowest possible orbital altitudes for each body over the entire range of possible inclinations. I'll see if I can find that.

EDIT:

The limit for atmospheric planets isn't actually the atmosphere as such. It's the point where the atmosphere reaches 0.01atm. That table can be found here:

http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Atmosphere#On-rails_physics

Obviously that's on-rails only. Entering the atmosphere when controlling a craft or being with 2.5km of it will slow it down.
