Whats the deal with the new parts for .24?

Recommended Posts

I think Squad has been pretty clear that they're trying to get away from half-implemented new features. They'll add fairings when they will actually do something, which won't happen until when (if) they ever replace the nonsensical stock aerodynamics.

Glad they hired Bac9

Sad he's no longer involved with Squad.

Cargo bays and stock fairings (in any form) all are tied with the Aerodynamic model. Cargo bays are indirect in that they should come once the space plane parts get an overhaul, which is directly tied with the Aerodynamic model.

Personally the whole "we need a better Aerodynamic model" idea isn't an immediate thing. I do feel its one of the bigger issues the game has before full release as its tied with multiple other completely missing elements (Areodynamic part selection, re-entry effects, and Fairings)

In maybe 2 to three updates we should see sight of some work for a new Areodynamic model. As after this update, the basis of career mode should be set. To continue on Scope completion an obvious rework for Areodynamics is needed at least to allow Fairings to be added.

Now back to the .24 parts, i am almost sure this update will bring a few parts to the game. An update thing big needs to have something to keep Sandbox players happen, and thus it will bring newer parts to keep those people happy.

That would be wasting programmer time on adding multiplayer. Oooooh zing.

Ha, you silly plonker :P

No, we don't. Look at the nose cones - it's exactly the same case.

We could also use a cargo bay - like the one on a space shuttle. But IMHO fairings should take priority over a cargo bay.

I never said I didn't want them added, just that there isn't much use; I agree about the nose cones, I don't even know why they were added (aesthetics?). I think they would add fairings at the same time redo the drag model, when they would actually become of use, so I wouldn't want them .24 at least.

BUT we should probably try to say on track, since this was a question about parts coming in 0.24, and we're almost definitely not getting stock cargo bays or fairings in 0.24.

Agreed! I'm looking forward to having these monoprop engines that are said to be coming, they would be great for micro-landers! Not sure about these LFO RCS thrusters, I hope they're more powerful (maybe 3-5kN?)

I'm actually looking forward to the LFO thrusters more (and I hope they're more powerful than the regular RCS quads, too). No need to put monoprop tanks on big interplanetary ships, and they seem like just the thing for fine tuning orbits using the translation controls.

True... Yeah you're probably right; the amount of fuel you save for not carrying monoprop tanks will probably be more than you use for RCS... I'm just gonna have to get used to not using every last drop of fuel availible in the rockets; maybe just adding small tanks to a craft and turning flow off would help. :)

So it seems the Dev team is working on at least some of the MK1 pieces (that name seems... familiar :P)

So hopefully this means we get the MK2 and MK3 IVA's finally which would please any long term KSP player :)

It may not mean they will come this update, but at least i know that they are FINALLY working on it

Here is the dev note:

Hugo (The Intern): Working on the Mk series pieces. Starting some IVA planning for some of these. I’ve been improving some of the MK-1 changes I did with the feedback of my coworkers. Getting super excited about the coming release.

Seems like it's mostly changes / fixes to the existing parts.

I took a look back and it seems like he has been working on various improvements to the parts for a 4 weeks already, with some breaks during one of them for bugfixes. But keep in mind he is an intern so it might be not as many parts improved as it appears on a first glance.
