How to make parts Snap to Centerline

Recommended Posts

Two part question

I am making a stack with several copies of the same part directly on top of each other, but for some reason the parts do not automatically snap to center and line up so I have to kind of eyeball it and they are getting slightly off center.

Is there some value I could add to the part to make it automatically center when it connects with another part?

I have a subassembly of the "manually" stacked parts. Is there a way to edit the .CRAFT to make sure all the parts are stacked directly along the centerline?

A pic of what you are doing would help, but if you are trying to attach things via nodes that are radially attached your best option is to rotate the camera so that the node is on the side of your rocket, also part placement has to do with MOUSE position, not part position.

These are not radial, just straight on top of each other in a stack, but it does not snap to the center so it can get offset easily. I will see about getting a pic later when I get back home.

Some parts will happily both surface attach and node attach at the same apparent location. Girders, for example, do have attachment nodes. But if you try to click them together from a skewed camera angle, they are prone to surface attaching instead.

Node attachment is what you probably want, since if things are node attached they are always perfectly aligned.

The editor extensions mod allows you to temporarily disable surface attachment to ensure that parts are only node attached, which is extremely handy for situations like this.

Try changing the camera angle so that you do not see the surface you are attaching to. For example i you are attaching on top of the other part, move camera down. this will, in my experience, help the parts snap into place.

It is definitely a surface attachment problem, I need it to snap onto the node.

I think this is going to be the winning solution!

Thank you to everyone who tried to help.
