Should batteries be lower density than fuel?

Recommended Posts

In KSP a battery has about half the mass as a fuel tank (including fuel) of the same volume, iow: about half the density.

edit: it's worse than that, i had modded the batteries to have double the mass of stock batteries. Batteries have about 1/4 the density of fuel tanks.

If you could drop a KSP battery in KSP rocket fuel, the battery would float.

KSP is not reality so liberties can be taken with a material's density, but this seems to be taking it a bit to far.

Changing the density of fuel would completely upset the game balance, so it would probably be best to increase the mass of batteries by at least a factor 3 or so.

They'd probably have to make a one huge run through all of the parts to ensure that mass and density are a things that make some logical sense. I wouldn't get my hopes up when it comes to that.

They can always blame it on a cartoon stylization and ignore it completely.

Well, I'm all for realism, but before you push for realistic densities, shouldn't you (you know) do the math and figure out what it really ought to be, using plausible real-life materials, before posting a suggestion like this?
