Threads marked as "unread" for no adequately explained reason

This is the dual thread to my last one here: from time to time, I find threads marked as "unread", even though I'd read all the posts in them and they'd previously been marked as "read". What gives?

I wonder how the planned upgrade to vBulletin 5.x is coming along... it's been a while since it has last been mentioned.

...and now this happens on all threads, so the only thing that "read" means is "hasn't been updated since 10 minutes after you last refreshed any page".
