freeze and explode in timewarp kraken?

So, I've been trying to land on Ike, but have a problem, I've developed a strange kraken attack, when I timewarp to get closer to the surface it freezes the ship in place, everything else is moving and the manouver nodes count down the time until the node, but the ship is frozen in place, velocity etc are shown but it's stuck in place, after exiting time warp it is still stuck from then on, unable to move or rotate. All other ships are shown moving normally in the map view.

Then when I try to escape by switching to the mothership (in ike orbit) in map view, it explodes, and all the parts fly off on crazy courses, except for the part that is focused, which is frozen like before.

From then on, when I quickload and try again, the lander freezes and the mothership explodes if it is still nearby when timewarp is activated, if attempting to leave Ike orbit, the mothership explodes when entering time warp.

Is this a known kraken and is there a way to escape it?

Does exiting the game completely (to desktop) and restarting help?

I haven't experienced exactly the symptoms you describe, but I've had similar bugs (0.0 m/s orbital velocity / spinning altimeter) which do go away after a full restart.

Also, are you using any mods at all?

In additions to the mods question, it would be helpful if you could post pictures of the craft in question.

Also, do your ships include a claw? There are some known problems with claw ships that cause them to freeze or explode. Although the exact cause is unknown.

I did do a game restart after the first time it froze, and it happened again pretty much exactly the same, I'll have to post a screenshot of the ship later as I've not got time to get one now.

The mothership is docked with a claw ship , its docked with a fuel tanker which is attached with a claw on it's front end to a docking port on the front end of the mothership.

mods i can remember now are: KAC, mechjeb+all pods config, TAC fuel balance, ship manifest, chatterer, hot rockets, raster prop monitor, probe iva, EVE, texture replacer, action group manager, surface nodes, scene jumper, vessel view, eva parachutes, navball docking alignment, enhanced navball, mk2 and mk3 cockpit iva, and tweakable everything.

I read the claw bug threads and sounds like that's what it is, except for the part about twisting the ship out of alignment with the COM, my claw docking was a perfect textbook docking, fuel ship and mothership were aligned perfectly.

I'll see what extent the bug's effects are later, to see if it's just that ship and ones docked to it, or if all ships freeze and explode now.

Yeah, I would bet it's a claw problem. I'm not sure if the exact cause has been narrowed down yet. Unfortunately, once it infects a ship it doesn't seem to leave that ship. And if you go to other ships after, it sometimes destroys the next craft too.

Well, that's a bummer, luckily I have a whole fleet of ships for my Duna mission so I think i'll just declare the mothership to be a plague ship and abandon it. Unfortunately that means 4 kerbals will have be trapped there forever, it's a decent sized ship so they will have enough space, I just hope one of them doesn't go completely insane and start going all Event Horizon on the rest of them.
