The best craft you have to offer: see our catalog

Thanks! added you to the OP!

I would like to join as a test pilot and a engineer

By engineer, do you mean rocket builder? Please fill out the form (just make up a company name if you are independent):)

Well, this seems interesting. I'll try to do my best!

Company name: R-SUV

The best craft to offer: That's a hard one. You could step by my company and take a look at the stuff I have in there, but if I had to choose the best seller, I'd say the White Dart, though it's one of my simplest builds. The Nodachi is much more impressive as an engineering resume, though.

Rune. My only problem is time to play, usually. But we'll see how this goes!

Ok, builders. Here is your dirt task:

Please make a rocket that is capable of putting a 2.5 ton payload into polar LKO. For the sake of RP, try to make it as if it was built with a relatively low budget(you will find out why soon). We are in a sandbox save, jut to be clear.

Can't wait to see wat you guys build!

I'd like to apply as a pilot:

Name: Jet Kerman

Strengths: Getting space planes to orbit, pretty good with conventional rockets (Launching, orbits, maneuvering, interplanetary, precision landing.)

Weaknesses: Landing space planes, docking.

Greatest Achievement: Flew an SStO to Duna and back.

So, here's my rocket, I kept it as simple as i possible could, to keep the price down. It can just bring a 3.128ton payload to a polar orbit of 200x200km. It has one SAS unit, and is equiped with a few solar panels to power it. In the images it is carrying a pod and some fuel as payload, but i will supply the rocket as a subassembly so you can put the wanted payload on top of it. I do suggest you test it first, as the amount of fuel left was very little, but everything should be fine if you fly it without wasting to much fuel. And it costs 20365 Kash (or whatever that currency is called)

Hope it's good!

For √300 more, you can get a lot more complicated, with much less margin to spare. Two whole stages of nothing but SRBs without reaction wheels! In case you end up frustrated by the tightness of things, you could always ditch the fairing earlier, including on the pad (just drag the second stage downwards, and be careful to activate it when no other engine is firing). It does comply with the requirements as it is, of course, simulations show 70x70km orbits are achievable without tapping into the deorbit RCS for circularization. And if someone decides to disregard those silly notions of aerodynamics that say stuff flies better when it's streamlined, they could just take them out in the VAB for a proportionally huge increase in performance, it's basically 2.25mT of dead weight during the first two stages. For the lolz.

Rune. Very kerbal IMO! Who's up for a test run?

Wait a second, I can do it with less parts and better looks...

Hmm, I'll be keeping tabs on this... I am intrigued, it looks like it could be a lot of fun, but I tend to run a lot of mod parts, and am in the Mechjeb camp. Don't get me wrong, I can do the stuff that mechjeb does, just not as efficient, and Mechjeb can keep to task better than me when my computer starts lagging out and running sluggish. But I'd be up for putting my kerbal in harms way for the sake of a good story, just have to wait till my schedule clears in a few weeks.

thanks Rune, I tested your ship and I really like it.

your craft seems to be missing the upper stage, could you try another upload?

thank you both for our substitutions, once i can test panzerkoef's ship, I will give more thorough reviews

Okay, here's what i came up with:

A fully rebuilt rocket, now with 2.5m parts to carry bigger payloads, more fuel so it can still make orbit if you screw up somewhere, but also a larger pricetag. The price of my new rocket is 21786, which is a lot more i know. But i can make pretty much every polar orbit in LKO you can dream of.

First, let me just say thank you to you both for submitting. I am not trying to show favoritism.

the craft I have chosen to be the first rocket for the program is Rune's lifter.

I didn't pick the CML-1 because we don't need more lifting power. a bare-bones, cheap rocket was all that was needed. But his could see service as a lifter for heavier payloads in the future.

I really liked Rune's creativity, especially in the solid-fuel staging, as well as the fairing.

thank you both for submitting. here is a new craft that we need:

A 1-manned CSM. It must have fuel for deorbit as well as the ability to be flown unmanned. Please, NO RCS(hasn't been invented yet). Have fun!

ps. Please do not test your crafts in-flight before submitting. von Ziedendorf and I have decided that all test flights will be assigned to pilots and logged as part of the mission. Because of this, please write a list of features that sets your ship apart from the others. craft will be chosen based on their features

Happy building!

Hey! I won the contract, that's great! I'll get on working on the next one right away. One thing tough, "no testing" is quite difficult, at least for boosters. Getting fairings and stuff to work requires at least simulations on the pad, never mind judging delta-v and gravity losses and such. So while I won't do much more than a quickly reverted "simulation", I rarely get a design that can be used without a RUD or two on the first hit of the green button.

Rune. By 1-manned CSM you mean just the manned orbiter, I presume?

Seems good! Might as well sign up for kerbonaut....

Name: Morf Kerman

Strength(s): Flyin' Shizzle!

Weakness(es): Errr... Designin' Shizzle?

Most Ambitious Mission(s): Flying a rocket to the arctic circle, dropping of 2 rovers and driving for half an hour to the base 45KM away.... then doing it again. Or flying 5 planes there of which 3 nearly crashed because I can't really design good things!

Cool. Ican add you when I get home from the beach and back to my computer
