Harder economy and progression in 0.24?

I've been really enjoying the new economy system in 0.24. However, as Squad stated previously, part of the intent for career mode is to serve as a tutorial for new players. This makes it a bit too easy for more experienced players, and I find that I rarely actually have to worry about funding when designing ships, since parts are cheap and funding is plentiful.

Could anyone suggest an existing or in-development mod that aims to make the economy harder, perhaps by reducing mission payout, harder missions, or more expensive parts? If one doesn't exist, I might just go in and crank up the cost of all parts by, say, 10x.

Also, could anyone suggest a good tech tree mod that makes for a harder progress that you think might work well with the new economy system? I remember there was a tree floating a while back (called traditional tech I think) that made it necessary to start out with planes and rovers before going into space. That might work well with the mission system, since most early missions require testing parts in atmosphere, which could be done with reusable planes to save on cost, while collecting the funds necessary to build an expensive disposable rocket.

IIRC, using the later versions of ModuleManager you can actually do a blanket part cost adjustment by a certain multiplier. Something like:

PART[*]
{
@cost *= 6.0
}

Someone who knows MM better will hopefully come along and show how it is done properly, but that is a gist of it.

If you really want a hard challenge try Better Than Starting Manned (BTSM) although I gave it a go and decided I didn`t want it THAT hard...

Good tip for increasing the cost of stuff there. I think I will do something like that, is there one that would reduce the science payout in a similar way?

You can, yes. 5thHorseman has a script lying around here somewhere.

I would like to see this as well. I'm not sure I understand that mod though. I'd like to be able to reduce science and reputation gained. And then either increase part costs or reduce funds gained.

I fixed regex's snippet to actually work, and zipped it up together with Module Manager. Have fun: Download at Kerbal Stuff

Wow, will get. Thanks for that.

Any way to have this single little mod also reduce the amount of science you get for everything? I know how to mod this manually but it's a pain in the ass.

There are two ways of doing this, both can be used together.

You can use my Celestial Body science editor to reduce the multipliers for each celestial body; this is particularly useful for lowering the science values from the Mun and Minmus: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/80220

You can also use 5thHorseman's Module Manager config for reducing the base value of each science experiment: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/77359

Thanks, I elected to blanket reduce the science multipliers by 30% and increase costs of everything by a factor of 3.

Any thoughts on tech trees? BTSM is a full makeover of KSP and intentionally doesn't play well with other mods, RPL is similar and seems built entirely for RSS (plus I think it was last compiled against .23 and its dependencies are scary).

Was kind of hoping for an RPL for stock-sized KSP and love for the standard craziness of mods :)

Tried it and set the multipicator to 2 just works what elss should I say now the system is more challenging and imo more fun. Many thanks to mic_e and regex ! The thing withe the science I don´t understand how to do yet but´ll word on that...
