How does one rescue a Kerbal from orbit (mission)

OK I got a mission to resue a kerbal from orbit,5 days after the mission I launch rescue 1,I aproach him.

I match speed,I'm 10 meters away from him,

I can't fly him.

The tracking station is showing him as a Kerbal,but I can only track him,I don't seem to be capable of taking control.

I'm running .24 64 bit

I got

Mechjeb,Kerbal Engineer redux,Kethane and the scansat 6 installed,all the .24 versions.

U have to switch to him using the "[" and "]" buttons on your keyboard . If your keyboard is different (like other country) search in the web for the right keys.

Or you could re-map the keys to somthing compatible with your keyboard.

Txn indeed,I wasn't used to using that keybinding,also I was fearing a bug I encountered in 23.5 where Kerbals would turn 'dead' when saving when one was on eva had reared it's ugly head

There should probably be a popup menu the first time you approach a stranded Kerbal informing you which key(s) to press to control them. I certainly didn't learn about "[" and "]" until quite a few weeks into my first experience with KSP, and it's not exactly intuitive to expect that's what you have to do.
