Unofficial Easy Part Sorting Thread: Sort parts as they appear in the editor list

Sorting Mods

(e.g. "Show Procedural Fairings first.")

1.) Open your KSP install's GameData directory

2.) Rename the mod to have "a_" before the name. You can also use anything else that will put it first alphabetically. (Try not to tamper with things like ModuleManager or Toolbar, which needs 000_ to load first, I think.)

Keep sorting until the parts will display how you like them. Remember, do Right Mouse Click on an empty area in the folder, then do "View>Alphabetical" and "View>Descending" to see how they will be sorted.

If you want to sort individual parts, rename their part directory (LV-T30: gamedata/squad/parts/engine/liquidengine1) which you can find by checking the part.cfg's for the "Title:" line, just like above. (a_LiquidEngine1 will put the T30 first among the Squad parts, etc.) For some mods like B9 or Tiny Cat Co. Plane Parts (my mod,), make sure to move the part(s)'s .cfg file to a different folder if its native (original folder) folder has more than one part.cfg file, or any other .cfg files.

I hope this can help someone, so thanks for reading. Have fun. :)

Erm, I'm not sure I can recommend this.

While it does work for parts, it has a high chance of breaking plugins. (Plugins being mods that come with a .dll file.)

The reason being is that the mod author programs the mod to look for files in a certain location, notably texture files.

If you did this to any of my mods, it would not longer know where to find the texture for the button on the toolbar and so there would be no button resulting in not being able to access (or reduced access) the mod's functions.

I would recommend something like Simple Part Organizer instead.

Please please please dont do this!!! If you are having trouble (like I was) finding and sorting parts in the VAB/SPH get PartCatalog! It is a great mod that auto-detects parts and auto sorts them for you. You can also manually add and sort parts as you wish!

I REPEAT - DO NOT DO WHAT THE OP SUGGESTS UNLESS YOU WANT TO BREAK ANY* MOD WITH A PLUGIN

*nearly all
