Contracts mode

Recommended Posts

With 0.24 we have the Science mode separate from Career, but why not also have a Contracts mode which would basically be Sandbox with finite funds? I personally like to play like this, in my opinion science is a grind so I just save-edit to skip that part.

Nope, it doesn't break. I get testing contracts for stuff long researched, as I have everything bare the nuclear engine (used my old save). So it shouldn't be a big issue, although I don't find total sandbox very appealing (just my opinion).

I would think instead of splitting it into many different career modes it should be as follows:

- Sandbox, just like it is now, with everything unlocked and funds/contracts turned off.

- Career, with options for what features you want turned on and difficulty options, want everything unlocked, turn science off, want infinite funds turn funds off, want no revert options turn them off, and so on. Could even have funds and science multipliers, so you can earn more or less of the resources depending on how much of a challenge you want. This way you can cater to as many players as possible.

Yea that would probably be a good idea

I have no official statements to back it up, but I think Squad has said they won't do such a thing. I think it was because they wanted the game to function so that whatever anyone does, if someone else does the same thing, then they get the same result. This is their argument against a lot of things, like random seeds for procedural planet generation (which could basically create everyone their own galaxy to play in, if taken far enough), random failures and settings that you could turn on/off when creating a game.

If anyone could find me that official statement (if it exists and I'm not just writing nonsense here), I would be thankful.

I thought that was only in reference to the celestial bodies, i.e. no random planetary systems. Could be wrong, though.

Yep, as Sirrobert said, to make it simple, instead of "modes" we could have a selection of starting conditions:

Money on/off [Career/Sandbox]

Missions on/off [sandbox missions/Career science goal only]

Science on/off [science points needed to progress/all science unlocked on start]

Oh, and for "hardcore"

Reset/quicksave/retries on/off [For when those mission dollars INCLUDE test flights and failures and replacement rockets!]

:)

Yes that's how I understood it to.

I don't think money/science was even a discussion point when they said this though, so the statement/our understanding of it could be outdated
