Youtube (Google) purchased Twitch for $1 billion

It's official now: http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/07/24/google-buys-livestreaming-service-twitch

I'm what you could call a "Youtuber". I never streamed anything in my life but I've always been intrigued by the idea, but never convinced myself to open a Twitch account.

Now what? I know KSP-TV is Twitch based, does this changes anything? Is good news? Bad news?

I know many youtubers made the switch to twitch (busta rymes!) when the third copyright war broke out, but now that twitch is one with youtube....

This isn't good news at all. Pretty soon all the TV in the country will be from comcast and all the internet video will be from youtube...

Monopolies are bad, mkay.

But, Google is a good company. Isn't it?

Except when it comes to Content ID and all that stuff. I'm a little YouTuber and there was some video that I had to re-upload with half a second muted or changed because YouTube auto tagged a "copyrighted" thing from nowhere.

This was especially true when I tried to make a Tomb Raider series back then in French (when I first started the channel); almost every cutscene was copyrighted and taken down.

Maybe there will be good things with this, but expect a lot of weird-to-bad things happening to Twitch: Google+ for example.

Or maybe worse: Twitch gets merged with YouTube streaming and bye bye future Twitch ...

Monopolies are bad, mkay.

A historical example would be Eastern Asia. It developed into a China-centered monopoly. And it brought cultural assimilation, technological and ideological stagnation. Eventually making it lose the arms race and lose its culture.

When a certain culture group becomes powerful and has enough influence, it starts generating a monopoly. We never learn.
