Nuke engine keeps detaching when staging!

Recommended Posts

This is Single Stack after discarding the Asparagus boosters. My last stage is now empty after achieving Kerbin escape velocity. But when I stage from the last chemical booster, the decoupler keeps yanking off my Nuke engine! I've tried Struts more and fewer to no effect. The stack won't fly without struts from the lower stage to the upper without failing on the way up. What am I doing wrong?

Can you post the craft file or some pictures? A picture of it just before the engine gets ripped off, while it's getting ripped off, and just after it gets ripped off would be very helpful.

I like imgur for uploading for the KSP forums, super easy.

Good news! It's an easy fix.

You need a decoupler between the LV-N and the tank below it. Unless the decoupler got hidden inside the tank, in which case the bottom of the decoupler is attached to the LV-N and the top is attached to the tank.

Edit: Laie's right, definitely slipped inside the tank. You may need to pull everything off the bottom of the tank and replace the whole tank.

That decoupler is clipped into the tank. Some attachment node is connected to two parts. For all I know, it could be that the engine is actually attached to the tank.

Decouplers easily slip in a bit too far. In my experience, that never ends well.

Yep! That did it! I never noticed the Striping was gone on the bottom half. I don't know how it happened but maybe when I kept taking off the bottom with the Asparagus staging and putting it back on it somehow got the tank up inside the coupler. That was the screwy thing! I had a vehicle simular to this that I've already been in orbit around Duna but when I rebuilt the top with the Lander I want to try it somehow got changed. I just didn't understand 'cause I didn't do anything Different! Thanx Guys!
