Eve SSTO: Now with cheaty goodness!

Recommended Posts

What if you take out the monopropellant in the capsules GoSlash ? If you're not using it anyway' date=' the difference in weight might provide an advantagde.[/quote']

My goal is to create a truly practical Eve SSTO. That means I have to carry aloft the means to rendezvous and dock with an orbiting platform. I'm sure I'd do better without the monopropellant and nozzles, but that'd defeat the purpose.

Slash, you might want to consider downgrading cockpits if you want to keep the monoprop. Looking at your craft, it looks like a least a fifth of the weight is the cockpit, which is a considerable amount. I bet you could get quite a bit of a better of a run if you simply traded out for a lighter cockpit.

Of course, this is all assuming you don't mind a chair and individual monoprop. containers.

Best of luck,

Caveman

Caveman,

I could do that, but then it would bump me into "exhibition" class.

Well, I've done it. I took my totally cheaty Infiniglide Kraken Drive, hyper-edited it to Eve, and took it to orbit. I couldn't quite actually land it, the flaps make it bob and hover too much, but I figured within spitting distance of the ground and not moving was close enough. It was even more prone to exploding when the Kraken drive was activated than on Kerbin, but after many attempts it succeeded. It's funny how crazy a launch profile you end up using when you have literally unlimited delta-V but a high chance of explosion if you do anything twitchy.

Ladder Force may be against the rules now, but I made this and am posting it places.

(Though I lost a panel in an accident, so it may not have counted anyway.)

I don't understand why some people sign their posts... I mean, your username is just there.

That's a good point, maybe it's just a style thing? Maybe they got started with email, where generally you do sign at the end? Or maybe even letters...
