i have now discotined both the dreadnought and the carrier my new ship the light cruiser has been tested and is ready for combat with your ship it will carry a full load of my light support fighters The light cruiser by emu dynamics is a powerful fast but lightly armoured capital ships it carries 8 heavy missles and 8 docking ports for carrier fighters with the standard sized docking port

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ui6knkx5lu...ier.craft?dl=0 the main ship

https://www.dropbox.com/s/xl7j4n6oam...ter.craft?dl=0 the support fighters (8 of these light support fighter) if you use these you will have to quickly switch the missiles around as they are facing the wrong way

https://www.dropbox.com/s/mrhmwmd0tj...Emu.craft?dl=0 the support fighters (4 of these hummingbirds)

https://www.dropbox.com/s/p67uh4sena...ber.craft?dl=0 the support fighters (2 of these space bombers)

i am happy to verse the Avacyn

as much as I'd like to accept my computer doesn't even like two modest-sized ships in the same place :C

Well, more and more various attempts to make armor meaningful have failed.....

I thought i was onto something when i made a very heavy core (and used vernors being massless to increase its weight and thus make it harder to kill), but even that still dies here and there, although plastering vernors or other heavy massless parts onto the core girders does actually lower the chances of being split in half (just not very part count efficient).

If anyone has some secret armoring technique id love to know it, cause for now, im pretty much stuck and im starting to believe that mobility and low cost/mass means more then armor, and that armor should at best be useable against fighter weapons (itd be kinda humiliating to have a capital ship 1 shotted by a fighter with short ibeam+2 sepatron missiles).

What you're beginning to think is the truth.

It's been that way for a long while, with the exception of 150+ ton battleships armor is only to stop fighter missiles, anti-ship shots tend to one-shot anything under 100 tons and two-shot 100-150 ton ships. Over that number bigger warheads are indeed needed if the armor is done right, but can still be killed pretty easily.

I just made a breakthrough!

Right now, ive shot at my Sk-CRV-IA1 (A1 is a redesignated and modified 1st gen class-I corvette) at least 50 times from varied directions (and even firing at well known weakspots of the older model), and NOT ONCE has it been split apart via popper-H! Its got its share of weaknesses that i cant really solve without destroying its mass/part count advantage, but overall its a very solid craft capable of putting the hurt on. The most damage iove done to it sofar is knock out all 3 engines with 1 hit (thats a vulnurability), and ive once managed to shoot off the entire rear section with the engines, and twice destroy the entire front (not split it off but wipe out all the missiles stored there).

Current stats are:

~65 tons armed, ~47 empty

~170 part hull, ~270 total with weapons

Its primary weapons consist of 4 Tripedo-M that can be swapped for Tripedo-S, popper-H knockoffs, or really anything that is short (at most 2 docking ports and 1 FLT-200 stacked together long). Secondary weapons consist of 6 forward firing railguns (swappable for anything 0.6m in size). The Tripedo-Ms are powerful enough to 1 shot vaporize a kanji class Drek, and they are effective against virtually all vessels provided accurate hits and the ship isnt specifically built to counter it.

Given how lightweight, low part count, and relatively mobile (decent acceleration, turning, evasion abilities, ect) it is especially compared to the sort of ships on this thread in general, i think its going to be quite competitive. Even moreso in active multiplayer where i can actually face it with the optimal direction towards incoming weapons (its still weak from some angles and directions, but i can always spin it around to show enemy the harder side).

Here are 2 screenies of my new ship, the SK-CRV-IA1, the first AKS ship that is near impossible to 1 shot with popper-H missiles (im not saying more powerful weapons cant 1 shot it, but its near impossible to kill it with a popper-H without multiple consecutive hits).

I stole the appearance from the Sk-CRV-Ig5, and i stole the internals from the original 1st generation SK-CRV-Ig1.

And i went back to the old old lighting scheme, those exposed panels hit by light at that angle look stellar and sci-fiy as they outta!

Can I has download? i want to see if I can kill it with a popper.

I will once i finish it 100%.

Its still kinda WIP, and im still trying to see if i can remove part count/mass without ruining its armor.

Your new missiles are sadly much more lethal and i have 1 shot it before (although it tends to just get split in half and take damage, but not quite cloud of debris style.

Yeah, with the new 12-ton KB2 I can gut BASILs reliably (40% on the first shot, 100% by second shot). They're awesome, scary missiles that are both I-beam and Tirepedoes, so they punch and shred. Slightly unpredictable damage patterns though.

12 tons is pretty heavy, they must be like the missiles from days long gone(.19 and stuff)

I'm trying to hit a Jiji with something 10 times less without crashing. The dumbfire version hasn't failed to kill previous iterations.

Jiji has the same armor as previous iterations, it won't hold up. I'm actually having a hard time making armor ATM, I've focused more on making heavy shipkilling missiles to offset that problem.

After some more testing, the SK-CRV-IA1 isnt quite as overpowered as i initially thought (i found an angle that gives ~25% chance of blowing apart the entire rear). Still, there is absolutely no angle whatsoever you can guarantee a kill with. Bad luck aside though, its is extremely hard to destroy with one shot, and ive had a few tests where it survived 4 popper-Hs and still wasnt 100% neutralized as it had at least 1 functional torpedo left, or the ibeam stacks in front.

Ohh, and apparently i think ive found the reason its so powerful. There is no mid impact tolerance part anywhere onboard the craft. That measn the hull is made of 80m/s crap (minus the cosmetic wings), and every internal component has at best 10m/s impact tolerance making nasty hist destroy but not dislodge said internal components. Ive actually come to teh conclusion that anything mid impact (between 20 and 50m/s) is TERRIBLE to have if you dont want to have catastrophic chain reactions and or instant debris cloud after a nasty weapon hit.

All in all, while im still investigating whether this is true or a localized case, i believe that the best vessels use a combination of 80m/s impact skeletons/hulls, and have all the internal components as light and as weak as possible (what really kills vessels in one shot is when something detaches and phased into the skeleton, 90% of the time that thjing is a fuel tank or something).

Ohh, and avoid MK2 and MK3 parts in capital ships like the plague, ive always had bad results with those things against anything but weak railguns or pea shooters.

Zekes, I made a smaller derivative of your missiles at 10 tons apiece with 16 parts. Rips squids in two at 300 m range.

The squid isnt exactly armored well so i wouldnt use that as a standard of armor......

I think zekes designed it a some support type vessel, intended to deploy missiles, not eat enemy missiles, and stay out of direct combat if im right.

The squid is probably the worst armored vessel I have. You could look at it wrong and it'll break. But it can carry four 10 ton anti-ship missiles, and when you're fighting 150-200 ton ships that's all that matters on the first turn.

Well, if anyone is interested in giving it a try, i present the AKS SK-CRV-IA1 corvette class capital ship.

ERWAQTE.png

NkvQycE.png

vCyejTa.png

Created from the hull of the original Sk-CRV-Ig1, the 1st class-I corvette ever made (that was never actually uploaded or used in battle ever), it shares the original's rather tough armor that was specifically developed to counter the popper-H used by many drek warships. It may not have been the most popular craft among captains, owing to the cramped and badly protected command bridge (the craft comes from an era where no live pilots were present aboard AKS ships), but noone could deny that it was more effective in combat then any previous model. It may not be as simple (low on parts) as the mid generation models, and it defenetely isnt as effective vs multiple smaller vessels, but it eats capital ships for breakfast.

Advantages:

Relatively mobile, with 3 nukes pushing ~65 tons, its not the best out there, but it will outturn and outrun most of the mainstream heavies on this thread that dont use LFO and thus have garbage range.

Decent armor against guided phasing rounds such as the popper-H, the older missile zeke developed, my own tripedo-S and tripedo-M, and zamo's tirepedoes. Its by no means immune to these and other weapons, but it is very hard to kill the craft with a single hit from anything that is not excessively heavy (~10t weapons will kill it, like anything else for that matter).

Relatively compact making it a difficult target compared to most larger ships, especially if looking at its front/rear.

Enough firepower to simply make it go away (or turn into a cloud of debris). With 4 Tripedo-Ms (export version is armed with popper knockoffs and not Tripedo-Ms as id rather keep em to myself until i use em at least in one battle, but these are similarish in effects), it can wipe out anything ive shot at, although some larger vessels do require multiple shots to actually bring down.

Effective against fighters too due to optional forward facing railguns (can be swapped for any 0.6m weapon).

Weapons are fully modular, you can fit most 1.2m weapons in the side bays, and you can fit most 0.6m weapons in the forwards slots.

Looks good (thats questionable, but i think it looks pretty good).

ONLY 270 parts with all weapons, and ~170 parts unarmed, and lowers the suicide rate of those with potato comps.

incredibly lightweight given its combination of armor and firepower. At 65 tons, you can easily bring 2 of these for every one larger 120 or so ton warship, and it only takes one of these to kill said 120t warship.

Disadvantages:

Extremely vulnerable engines. And by extremely vulnurable, it means anything powerful that phases in and actually hits the rear of the ship will most likely destroy all 3 engines that are clustered and have no bulkheads or strong protection. This is honestly the achilles heel of the entire vessel, yes its hull is quite strong, but if you cant move, what good is a fully intact hull. The engines are also exposed from teh back partially, making fighters capable of destroying engines with precise shots.

Weapons are somewhat vulnurable, easy to knock out with accurate hits to the exposed bays. The one good thing here is that the weapons are spread out throughout, making any one shot extremely unlikely to knock out more then 2 of the primary torps.

Subpar range. Well, maybee not bad as its ~2200dV, more then enough for anything that isnt interplanetary, but kinda nothing compared to many vessels on here that have in excess of 4K, some even 10K.

Above average vulnerability to weaker weapons, since the armor is rather minimalistic. Compared to say a drek or other heavy warship, the SK-CRV-IA1 is easier to kill or neutralize with heavy railguns, and doesnt quite have that immune to weak weapons feel that many heavier designs do. Its not that bad, but itll die to ~10 or so well aimed railgun shots, something other ships could pretty much ignore. A future version is being worked on that adds another armor layer fixing this issue.

Somewhat susceptible to shrapnel since it has no dedicated internal bulkheads. many weapons that break into chunks will tear through the interior and take at least a few fuel tanks with em. For a single shot this is often irrelevant, but multiple hits, even if they dont "kill" the corvette by splitting it in half, will probably leave it with little to no fuel, very low maneuverability (without all 6 reaction wheels it turns kinda badly), and probably even destroy most if not all engines.

Download is the usual spot, in my craft repository on the AKS company page (clicky the signature image thing and scroll down for link to the mediafile folder, then go to AKS ships directory and its the one called SK-CRV-IA1 Export).

Finally, the armor is patented AKS technology, while i have nothing against everyone learning from my ships, i would prefer not to see everyone running around with carbon copies of this thing :) (provided its even good enough for that.....).

It's stock and BD armory. this plane will literally fly inside of any other plane's turning radius and if you give it the room it'll accelerate to insane speeds. And it's VTOL.
