I heard about that there are, Pyramids just like in Giza Egypt, now i play "Take on Mars" i have dilemma in which to play KSP or TKOM :D

But seriously does any major Space Agency(NASA, ESA, Roscomsos) ever send rover or at lest lander to Mars Cydonia.

No, there aren't any pyramids. There are several hills and mountains that vaguely resemble pyramids, but really aren't.

Anyway i now i'm paying "Take on Mars" and i would be disappointed if dev tem forgot about Cydonia:D

Alright, now this is going to drive me crazy. I remember a lot of talk about another anomalous structure. It might have even been on the moon, not mars. UFO folks were convinced this was a very tall skyscraper-ish object, and there was a piece laying on its side next to it, which suggested that it had broken off.

Doesn't really matter to me if this was an artificial object or not, but I still want to know what came of it. If it was a natural object that actually looked like what the photos implied, it would still be an anomaly worth looking at.

I can't find ANY references to it now though.

Look for images using "Spire moon". You'll get conspiracy sites with pictures like this:

Complete with hilarious dialog from people who don't understand how cameras or shadows work.

how cameras work.

Until I picked up photography as a hobby I thought there was something to some of the "anomalous" moon photos. A basic understanding of photography cured me of that nonsense.

Actually take a look as it; that's the same mesa with slightly different lighting. It's still no more face-like than your average 'jesus in wood grain/bird poop/cheese on toast' sighting.

I don't think so. Also very interesting that NASA is choosing some lightning even more blurring the facial details. They do not earn very much trust with such an approach. No wonder people thinking of conspiracy theories.

With such actions people start feeling like they want to hide something from them. They should deliver all the hard facts without trying to hide something. No matter of the discussions that could arise afterwards.

NASA's job is to further the exploration of space, it isn't to pander to the delusions of people who think there are skyscrapers on the moon and faces on Mars. It's like the Obama citizenship issue. People asked why he didn't produce his birth certificate. It's because there was no point. When he did, it didn't make the slightest bit of difference to their delusions.

The pictures from MRO are in natural lighting, they just happen to be taken at a different time of day from the old Viking pictures. It's the ones that you posted that have been "adjusted" with photoshop by some guy on a kook web site. Why would you trust him rather than the hundreds of scientists that work at NASA, JPL, and various international universities and astronomy organizations. If those pictures were tampered to hide stuff, don't you think that some serious research organisation from Russia, China, or Iran would blow the whistle and come up with some evidence?

Or ESA, given they have an operational Mars orbiter. One capable of taking stereo images even, which should remove a good part of the ambiguity from lighting conditions. So what does it see? Well...

The 'pyramid' is object D in the photo shown.

I'd like to see a mission to Cydonia. Not that I expect anything to be found, but I suspect a mission there would have a lot of public support.

It could have been something like an artificial building representing a face which eroded over time. We will never know for sure without taking a close look to it with a mars mission.

What evidence is there of it being artificial, other than Hoagland's claims?

OMG! Faces on Earth!

Pareidolia is a thing.

Errm what? Where did i claim it is artificial? I just say we send something there to have a closer look. Eventually we find something or not.

I am very well aware of this phenomenon but this is no reason putting every thing we see aside and ignore it. There should be more research on cydonia just to be sure.

Here:

There is simply no indication that it might be artificial.

I just say we send something there to have a closer look. Eventually we find something or not.

Landing locations are dictated by science goals, which are driven by the people doing actual research. Current research is focused on exploring the places where we might find the chemical building blocks for life, not places that have pretty shadows under certain lighting conditions. The erosion process that caused the formation of those Cydonia mesas is pretty well understood and we wouldn't learn much by sending a robot there compared to other places.

Sorry but no, that is not a claim that is an assumption, this is a big difference. I did not say: "it is artificial". I said: "It might be".

Edit: IMO it is very unscientific to judge this alone by imaging sensors. However i know that there are not enough funds to actually do a mission there because there are greater priority targets.

How do we know that? I've phoned up the wildlife agency and the RSPCA, but they've refused to send anybody. Without a thorough search, how can we be sure?
