Quicksave while moving rover

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

i just ran into a strange behavior while loading a quicksave. Saved by pressing F5 while moving a rover with ~15m/s over mun surface. When i now load the quicksave, my rover seems to partially sink into the ground and crashes immediatly (performing a quite entertaining air stunt :P). Is there any chance to safe my rover (editing savefile maybe)?

Thanks in advance, and hey, great game, keep on the good work.

Regards

You might be able to edit the save file and move the whole rover up a meter or two. I believe you can do that by finding the VESSEL{} section in your quicksave.sfs and changing the alt and/or hgt parameters. Make a backup copy and try it out?

Thaks for the hint, but it didnt work. My rover starts at 1m height, as manipulated in the savefile, but still dives into the ground and crashes (with an even more specacular liftoff :sticktongue:). Seems i have to accept the loss.

Hey ho,

sorry for delayed reply, was away for some days (juniors first brthday :cool:). I couldn't find an entry for speed, so i just accepted the loss and made a note to myself always to stop (and apply brakes) rovers bevore quicksaving (or doing something else). Thanks anyway, at least i learned something about the inner structure of savegames. :D

To me, KSP does not allow saving when the rover is moving on surface, but allows saving when it jumps off ground for a brief moment. On load, though, the rover must continue flying for a while or it crashes into the ground. I succeeded saving my rover (and the quicksave) by increasing the SMA attribute of its suborbital trajectory by a few meters.

Hey there,

This reply may be long overdue but I had the same problem and managed to solve it by going to the appropriate VESSEL{} (you can search the document for the name of your vessel) and editing to the following:

            sit = LANDED
landed = True

Perhaps someone else might find it useful in the future. :)
