Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management

In the Left Pane you'll see Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management

It may be as simple as assigning a drive letter to the partition on the disk, and probably taking ownership of the files on the disk.

However, referring to storage space as you do, that makes me nervous. That implys some sort of software RAID type shenanigans which could be a real pain to un-bork.

EDIT:

Assuming it's not a simple fix, do not, repeat, DO NOT run any repair tool on the disk in question, until you have made a complete clone of the hard disk.

What exactly do you mean by making storage space device? If you can do it without risking the data on the drive, I would try to do the same to the drive you did back then.

This. Make a copy of the drive first, then mess with that. Do not try to fiddle with the drive in question, as this might lose you your data.

I suspect he's referring to Microsoft's Storage Spaces, their drive pooling technology. Not overly useful for a single drive unless you plan to add more capacity to the pool at a later time. I haven't used it, but I'd imagine you need the Storage Spaces app to manage it.

If windows fails to detect the physical drive at all that suggests one of three things: loose/disconnected cable, misconfigured bios/uefi, or hardware failure. The first two are easy to fix, but if the drive has failed your only option is to send it to a data recovery specialist at great cost.

If the physical drive is detected but the storage space is not, look into configuration of that. If that's not successful, the program PhotoRec may be able to recover your data. Remember you need *another* drive to store the files it finds on.

PhotoRec, it was tried but failed, my ksp forum friend who live in Wroclaw tried to help my via team viewer, but testdisk listed my 2 TB drive as "unknown"

Which filesystem was the 2TB formated with? Eventually it's some filesystem that Windows8 does not support out of the box and you need a filesystem driver?

Try booting up some Live Linux distribution and check the disk with it?
