I am so unqualified to be in charge of a space center.

Really, I am not a rocket scientist.

(Not that I advertise myself as such, but still…)

I don't know why I bought this game. (I enjoy it, but I still can't explain my reasoning.)

Since my arrival at KSC, I have personally turned the VAB into a "factory of sadness."

I have, however, made significant progress in the days since I begun.

(Namely, I figured out how to (most of the time) land a spaceplane in roughly one piece (give or take), increasing the astronaut survival rate by about 84%. Actually, I just made that number up.)

My skills at rocketry, however, are subpar, at best.

As nobody in their right mind would volunteer for the kind of work I am making my "glorious cosmonauts" do, I have resorted to taking felons convicted of petty crimes, as well as mental outpatients, and strapping them onto whatever rocket-powered travesty I have created for my own twisted amusement. Much like the insane spacemen who surround me constantly, I have lost any and all grip on my sanity. Much of my waking time is spent designing new rockets, all of which fail disastrously.

Please, stop me before I kill agai- Oh, wait, too late.

Hey there.

I also know that from my KSP beginnings. I began thinking "I'm never gonna learn this..." "Why have I bought this.." "I'm just so stupid.." And it started depressing me that I could not get a rocket to orbit..

Now, until about 45 hours, I understand a lot of this game, things like ∆V, TWR, the mechanics of a couple of mods, I can dock, rendezvous and land on kerbin's moons. You may think this is not pretty good, but to be honest I haven't even tried to land on another planet. Don't give up, try around, look at other people designs, read tutorials, watch YouTube series. And believe me, it's pretty much learning by doing in KSP, but without help from other people like those at the Forum you also won't get a "master league player" in KSP.

So just don't give up^^Ask questions when you've got some. Good luck.

none is qualified for that. thats the great aspect of that game. the lovely stupidness of the kerbals just rocks and is awesome :D

i liked the game from the first second i saw and played it. and i broght my first rocket into orbit fast (but not back :D). after some hours i was able to land on mun and minmus. but i had some really big respect from interplanetary and those burnwindows and -times... but now i love travel to duna. it's not that hard and if you play modless you can warp 1 kerbal year for the best transfer after leaving kerbin (or for the return). the kerbals don't get mad. in one save i used jeb, bob and bill for 3 interplanetary travels in a row. they don't have kerbin under their feet for over 12 years because i refilled their craft everytime in the LKO :D. they are still happy!

KSP is hard, especially at first. Some of the concepts of space travel are counterintuitive and difficult to get your head around, even more so if you don't have a physics background. However, this makes it even more rewarding when some concept "clicks" and you start to get a good grasp on the game. So I would advise you keep at it and let your skills develop.

Someone made a blog post here that sums up the progression of knowledge in rocketry (UmbralRaptor I think, apologies if I'm wrong):

1. I want more thrust.

2. I want more thrust-to-weight ratio.

3. I want more Isp.

4. I want more delta-V.

5. I want a better mass fraction.

6. I want a better payload fraction.

There is much truth in that, and the game is definitely not as simple as the "moar boosters!" advice that gets thrown around.
