Yes I agree. I would kill many Kerbals for a tech tree that made sense but isn't BTSM.

I would kill SO MANY KERBALS! Ladders, struts, cubic octagonal struts, I-beams, panels, wheels, wings, and for heaven's sake, large nosecones should be unlocked way earlier.

TBH I actually rush for docking ports ASAP. Reason: my self-imposed rule is that only landing cans get to land on airless bodies, and only truncated cone command modules may re-enter on Kerbin. Naturally, I need the ability to transition between the two, and although the Soviet space program did plan to transfer to and from their lander and command module by EVA, and it's not a totally insane idea, I prefer the docking method, myself.
