Soyouz VS09 Anomaly simulation

Recommended Posts

Hi Kerbals,

Last friday VS09 Soyouz mission for two Galileo satellites ended with a degraded orbit due to a malfunctioning of the fregat stage.

The targeted orbit was circular, inclined at 55 degrees with a semi major axis of 29,900 kilometers. The satellites are now in an elliptical orbit, with excentricity of 0.23, a semi major axis of 26,200 km and inclined at 49.8 degrees.

Apparently the 2nd fregat boost occurred at the right place for the right duration but could have been in the wrong direction (error of 145°?!)

One of the hypothesis is a GNC or programming error.

Dear Kerbals, your mission, if you accept, is to simulate the malfunctioning of the fregat to confirm that a boost in the wrong direction could have lead to the degraded orbit reached.

I think that the Soyouz is available in a dedicated mod.

Good luck !

@ZodiaK: Eccentricity is unitless.

@schoil: I can't locate a current mod that includes the Soyuz ST. Can you? You should read the Challenge Submission Guide. At the moment, this doesn't seem to be a challenge, but you could make it one. How is the challenge scored? Should it be completed with stock Kerbin, RSS, or RO?

First of all, welcome to forums.

Second point, I suggest you to read and follow the Challenge Submission Guide.

On general note, it is I believe intuitive to all KSP players that by applying thrust in wrong direction, you will end up on a different orbit than what you may have planned for. So it would be probably nice to make your rules and requirements slightly more specific as what are the restrictions (KSC is not really situated in the same place as Russian spaceports), what are we trying to achieve, and "how do we win".
