egg shaped orbits?

Recommended Posts

Hi peeps, ive recently started to built an orbital base around kerbin with some drop pods capable of falling back to kerbin in a...safe matter but as I try to plan an intercept so that I can dock the pods onto the base I notice it has an egg shaped orbit and the bases velocity keeps changing...is there any tips on how to make that fast egg orbit into a slow circular orbit?

It's not an egg, it's an ellipse. It has two marked points - periapsis (the point closest to the planet) and apoapsis (the point farthest from the planet)

Apoapsis is the most efficient place to burn prograde if you want to raise the periapsis higher.

Periapsis is the most efficient place to burn retrograde if you want to lower the apoapsis.

Either or both will help you to change the orbit to circular.

Also, if you are having trouble getting a close approach (less than 2.5km) don't do what Gemini 4 did and burn straight at your target. Instead you want to plan a maneuver at your closest approach and try to get an intercept that way.
