In case you're serious, I have you on both counts.

1. The human brain hates the dark. This is not babyish, but a natural evolved survival instinct--early humans who ran blindly into the night usually didn't last long. Because of this, the brain makes us see and hear things that aren't really there, especially when we're anxious. And besides, even if the branches really did move, ever hear of animals?
