Halp! No comms device

Recommended Posts

Soo....I launched a fleet of satelites into the kerbol system without any antennae. I'd prefer to edit files to fix this issue than relaunch like 2m worth of satellites. Just want to add a regular antennae to a fleet of cloned science sats.

I don't think this is possible.. I think it would also take less time to just launch them again instead of first waiting for an answer and then going through the files of KSP and editing a file. Earning money goes pretty fast in career mode..

If you don't mind redoing the launches and are just worried about the money, simply edit your save to have more.

Otherwise, I suggest using hyperedit to return your launched satellites to KSC for recovery, and to put fixed satellites in their original orbits. Might have to manually note down the orbital parameters.

Or you could figure out ways to get the satellites to fly back to Kerbin.

Hyperedit has a cheat to put a vessel in docking position with another ship. So, create a copy of the original satellite, this time with the antenna. Use hyperedit to RV it with the original satellite. Doing so will copy the original probe's orbit. Then switch back to the original probe, use hyperedit to put it back into a Kerbin orbit (one with a very high Pe) if it's not there already and then use Hyperedit's landing cheat to land it at the KSC for funds recovery

Like juan said, create a fixed probe, put it on the launchpad and hyperedit it to rendezvous with the probe you want to replace(hyperedit>orbit>last tab, if I remember correctly, with a lead time somewhere between the default value and 5x as much, depending on how large your orbit is). Or you can launch a fixed probe to the LP, save and simply switch orbital parameters of your fixed and to-be-replaced satellites.

You can do it by editing the save files. I would start a new sandbox game, copy the proken craft across, add an antenna and then launch it (using hyper edit to save time). After that you should be able to find the craft you want to update in you main save and use a text compare program to compare the definition of the craft with and witout an antenna.

You should be able to see which bits of the file describe teh structure and attachements of the craft, and which bits describe things like its orbit and fuel status. Just merge the two to come up with a craft in exacly the same orbit, fuel etc as you main save, but with the new parts.

assuming they are all the same model....

Backup your save

In the VAB, add a comm device to the sat.

Put that sat on the launchpad, quick save....

Find the com device on that sat, copy and paste it to all your other sats of the same configuration

Then quickload

see if it works
