KerbalEDU: Some ideas.

Recommended Posts

So KerbalEDU should be a more realistic example of spaceflight than the game that KSP stock is. So far it has lesson plans and graphing and standard units (!)

1: Give the mod to the community.

2: Give the mod to the community.

3: Give the mod to the community, just without the things like bulk-purchasing.

okay, seriously now:

1: Make Kerbal universe full-scale or 6.4:1 scale (only in the mod version, not in stock, regex!)

2: Make all the planets perfect representations of their real bodies (Atmospheres, Gravity, and Size match their planets better than stock does), but keep appearances. (Aside from Laythe, make it volcanic like Io, and give it a new name. Perhaps "Replance" Due to the Laplace resonance and the fact that it replaces Laythe)

3: Rebalance rocket parts for full/64% scale, in size and mass-ratios. Also Engines.

4: One larger scale of rocket parts. (would be 5 meter diameter if there's no re-scaling of tank sizes.)

5: Maybe rescale Kerbals if you rescale command modules.

Giving the mod to the community with no extra bulk-purchasing deals would increase purchases by a little bit as some parents won't let their kids play anything but educational games. Now, granted most of KSP's community aren't kids, they still make up at least 4% of it (uneducated estimate, don't take that number seriously).

It would make regex happy, for sure.

"But daaaad! All my friends are launching flat space stations in one single launch with turbojets!"

"IN THIS HOUSE WE FOLLOW THE LAWS OF PHYSICS! NOW GO TO YOUR ROOM AND BALANCE YOUR C.O.L!"

No' date=' I didn't capitalize "regex", why do you ask?[/color']

Certainly there would be contract clauses to respect after proposing the general concept and mods are probably negotiable.

Anyway I see no reason to propose something for the EDU version here since it have to satisfy not us but schools.

Also, the whole interest of KSP is that it is simpler than an actual Space Simulator like Orbiter. I'm afraid we will never satisfy Regex without destroying the global appeal of KSP.

Also, does Squad actually have any influence over KerbalEDU?

It's my understanding that Squad develops KerbalEDU concurrently and in parallel to the mainstream game, so their influence is pretty strong.

I haven't heard much about KerbalEDU itself, so I don't know if it can be packaged like a mod or if it involves changes to the core game.

Nonsense. None of regex's proposed changes involve anything as complex as the patched conic orbital model already in play. Some of them would be barely noticeable to a new player, others would actually make the game more closely match their expectations based on real life.
