Forum user titles

By user titles I mean the text above a user's avatar. Mine is "Spacecraft Engineer" at the moment for example.

Do these change as your post count rises and/or how old your account is etc? I also see some users have custom ones. Is there a way to customise them or is it changed upon request by a forum mod?

Basically I'm just asking for some info on these little title things or whatever they're called.

They change dependant on how many posts you make. The more posts,the more awesome your title becomes
