Space shuttle main engines?

Recommended Posts

So I've been trying to build a space shuttle for a while recently and it strikes me that there is not high gimbal engine to can be used for the shuttle. This is making things extremely difficult to say the least. :/

I'm simply suggesting a version of the KS-25 engine which has the +/- 10 degree gimbal of the SSME while sacrificing some thrust and efficiency and having greater weight?

I looked through the already suggested list and was very surprised it wasn't on there!

I find the LV-T45s to be pretty great as a SSME-like engine, though the gimbal does need increasing in the cfg. I think in the past I found about 7 - 12 degrees to be around the sweet spot of gimballing for most purposes.

Interestingly enough, it would be pretty great to have a high gimbal engine in the game but the main reason it hasn't been there in the past is that high gimbal engines would rip themselves, or the tanks they're attached to, off due to the unreliability of pre-0.23.5 part joints. I can't really comment on the possibility of any in the future, but continuing to test and play around with modified versions of the stock engines can only lead to good places!

Are u sure about th joint thing? I have build a sdashuttle using a cluster of 8 v-tol rocket engines from b9. I set em up to do the gimbaling, there is a display for that with precise options to tweak angles and gimbal behaviour. They can easily do +-20° and nothing ever broke although it was wobbly.

Anyway, it worked great and I started the development back in 0.23. I had to use quite a lot of struts but it was ok.

But I would definetly like to see a balanced ssme in stock.
