Glitching to the Past: Finding an "Easter Egg" the Hard Way

Recommended Posts

Back before my own time, in the High and Far Off Days of Gods and Heroes known as 0.18 or thereabouts, it was easy to keep score of how many Kerbals you'd killed because their portraits would turn to static with "K. I. A." written on top in big, low-res, yellow letters. You can stil see this in some of the old YouTube videos. The old hands had tangible proof of their accomplishments and I've always regretted that went away by 0.20 when I came along. With the current thing of the portraits just disappearing, you're left to wonder if maybe the little bugger managed to escape :).

But I have good news! The old "K. I. A. on static" is still in the game buried under all the new stuff. You just need excavate it with sufficient force. Such as by flinging a Sepratron-powered dragster into the SPH at over 400m/s :D. And it gets even better! The Kraken Itself opens the doors of the Underworld for you. If that doesn't count as an Easter Egg, then what does?

I get this glitch regularly. I think it happens whenever the game auto-switches to a nearby craft when the current one gets obliterated. I had it happen very consistently when I was testing glider-bombers in FAR yesterday and had one parked next to the runway while I crashed another one nearby- it would automatically switch me to the parked plane, with both kerbal icons saying "K.I.A." like that. Funny little bug!

EDIT:

Now that I think about it, I was getting that back as far as 0.21 or .22 when I first started messing around with fighter spaceplanes. Wouldn't be surprised if it's been there even longer that that.

Well, glad to see it's confirmed but kinda disappointed not to have discovered it. Still, the important thing is, we now know how to create ZOMBIE KERBALS at will! Take 2 Kerbals, sacrifice 1 to the Kraken, and the other becomes a zombie. Praise the Almighty Kraken! :D
