KSP is taking 10+ minutes to load

I'm currently experiencing the same kind of thing; a 'phantom' default gateway (thanks Dad's wifi network) means with network connected the load takes ages.

Does this mean the code for loading disk assets is doing some kind of network operation that ends up taking 'ages' for the phantom connection, and might be taking 'longer than it needs to' for a regular connection? network is about the slowest thing you can do, so if you don't need to a network 'check' for each disk asset the normal load could be much faster?

Are we sure this is a Unity problem? Considering a program/engine will not make calls to a network unless it is specifically told to, it makes me question that presumption. Although, I guess a call that is supposed to made could be getting confused by unities programming as well... So, back in square one.
